Hollie Avil is one of Great Britain’s strongest medal hopes for London 2012.

Hollie was a swimmer and a runner growing up and only came across Triathlon in 2005.  She was immediately hooked on the multi discipline event and it quickly became apparent that she was extremely talented.

2007 was an incredible year for Hollie.  Racing on the French Grand Prix Triathlon circuit she reached the podium several times and won the Junior European Triathlon Championships in Copenhagen. She also became Senior Women’s National Sprint Champion and Triathlon Junior World Champion.

Following her successes she had the privilege of being named the BOA’s Triathlete of the Year, British Triathlon’s Elite Female Triathlete of the Year and East Midlands Junior Sports Personality Of The Year.   Hollie was also short listed for the BBC Young Sports Personality Of The Year and Sunday Times Young Sports Women of the Year.

Having dominated the European and World Junior Championships in 2007, Hollie made an immediate impact on the senior ranks coming 3rd, 2nd and 4th in her debut World Cups.  This ranked her World Number 1 at just 18 years of age, the youngest ever athlete to podium in successive debut World Cup races whilst still technically a junior.

In 2008 Hollie’s 4th place in the Madrid World Cup gained her selection for Beijing (whilst studying for her A levels) and in preparation for the Games she also won the British National Championships.  Unfortunately, following illness in the days preceding the race in Beijing she did not finish.

At the Triathlon World Championships in Australia Hollie dominated her race to be crowned the Under 23 World Champion.  Currently technically still a Junior, Hollie is studying at Loughborough University and is one of the favourites for victory on home soil in London 2012.
