Katy Livingston is a Great British prospect for the London Olympics in 2012 in the Modern Pentathlon.
Katy started competing in Biathlons (running and swimming) at the age of 12. She also took part in cross country running, athletics and netball whilst at school, competing in three National Cross Country finals and becoming Cleveland County High Jump Champion.
Having been successful in Biathlons, Katy took up pistol shooting to compete in Tetrathlons. Then at the age of 14, her dad encouraged her to learn fencing and agreed that if she enjoyed it he would fund horse riding lessons in order for her to compete in the full Modern Pentathlon event (swimming, running, shooting, fencing & riding).
In 2004 and 2005, whilst Katy was fine tuning her riding skills she competed in Tetrathlons (running, swimming, shooting and fencing) and proved that she has the talent and determination to win major championships in becoming National Junior and Senior Champion in 2004.
Having mastered the jumps on unfamiliar horses (athletes are given a mount at random) Katy proved that she was one of the best prospects in her sport when she won the 2005 Junior British Pentathlon Championships,.
2006 was Katy’s first year as a senior athlete and she continued her good form by winning the Senior National Tetrathlon Championships to earn a place in her first Senior World Cup Event.
2008 was a turning point for Katy winning her first World Cup in Cairo and then securing her place on the GB Olympic team with a Bronze at the World Championships in Budapest. In Beijing Katy finished a respectable 7th and ended the year ranked number 3 in the World.
2009 brought changes in the sport that see the shooting and running events combine. It is a learning curve that everyone will have to adapt to and Katy is attacking it head on. London 2012 is Katy’s ultimate goal for success.
