Pippa Wilson is one of Britain’s most exciting young sailors. Along with the two other members in the Yngling boat, they are the current European, World and Olympic Champions.

Pippa started sailing at the age of 5 in an Optimist and then crewed and helmed Cadets from age 8. She was Class National Champion aged 15 and came 4th overall and 1st Girl in the World Championships in Argentina later that year. She very quickly got the bug and her quest for an Olympic medal continued as she stepped up and moved into the RYA Youth Programme.

In 2002 at only 16 years old Pippa was selected to represent Great Britain in the 29er’s class, where she won Gold at the ISAF Youth World Championships and she also became European Champion later that year.

After her incredible achievements in the 29er’s ,Pippa moved into the 420 class in 2004 where she became the overall RYA Youth National Champion . She was selected again for the Youth World Championships in Poland where she won an excellent Bronze medal.

Following her achievements in 2004, Pippa decided she needed a new challenge and switched to the 470 class in 2005 and once again she was selected to represent Great Britain. At the European Championships in Poland she had a top 10 finish and later that year she and her crewmate finished 7th at the World Championships in San Francisco.

In 2006 Pippa was selected into the GBR Skandia World Class Performance Squad as one of the youngest members. In her first event in Miami she finished 3rd and then beat her main UK rival at the Hyeres Olympic Regatta in May.

Last year was Pippa’s best yet, she won Gold in February at the Yngling North American Championships, beating the World Champions in the process. Then she and her crew won the Breitling Medemblik Regatta in May and in July became World Champions.

Following their success at the World Championships Pippa and her crew went to Beijing for the Olympic Test Event winning that as well and guaranteeing their selection for the Beijing Games in the process ,ahead of double Olympic gold medalist Shirley Robertson.

The favourites lived up to expectations when they won Olympic Gold in Beijing.
