‘Rugball’ heralded as big success as fans go head to head at The Stoop during half-time showdown as Harlequins secure home victory

This weekend saw the launch of the latest in sports fan challenges as ‘Rugball’ was introduced to fans during the halftime interval of the Harlequins / London Wasps match. The all new supporters’ showdown saw home supporters go head to head with the travelling away fans in a unique challenge as part of Etihad Airways Harlequins sponsorship activation. The challenge will run at every home match at The Stoop and will see 2 Quins fans, boys and girls take on two opposing fans to attempt to get as many rugby balls in the specially designed ‘Rugball’ as quickly as possible. The men have to kick at least three of the balls from the 10m line, they can then choose to throw or kick the other two. The girls get to throw the balls 5m from the ‘Rugball’, with the winning team receiving a congratulatory bottle of champagne. Sounds Simple enough!

Over the season the best Quins team and best Away team will return on the Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Day for the Grand Final play-off to win a holiday courtesy of Etihad Airways to Abu Dhabi. To follow the leader board or to have a go yourself, log on to www.Etihadrugby.com and register.

Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways, Executive Vice President of Marketing and Product commented, “I am delighted that Etihad is the first company to be using Rugball as a half time promotion. For the Etihad Airways Rugball Challenge to culminate on Abu Dhabi Day will ensure the atmosphere on the day is electrifying.”

This weekend saw an epic battle between Rebecca Palmer and Iain George, two avid Quins supporters taking on two Wasps supporters, Martin Turner and Samantha Goodsell. Following the form of the actual Premiership match, the Quins supporters led from the outset. Rebecca and George scored five points in a time of 59.78 seconds, setting the standard for other Quins supporters to follow. There will be some fierce competitions over the next six months with Quins fans no doubt wanting to dominate on home turf.
