Pendleton wins Gold in sprint final
August 19, 2008
Victoria Pendleton cruised to victory in the women’s sprint final to win Britain’s sixth track cycling gold medal of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. The 27 year-old defeated Australian Anna Meares by comfortably winning the first two races in the best of three final.
The Professional Sports Group client led the first race and outsprinted her opponent to the finish line, before storming passed Meares on the final lap to secure the gold medal in race two. It is Pendleton’s first Olympic medal, having missed out in Athens four years ago.
Pendleton said: “It hasn’t sunk in yet. After the success of the team is it too much to ask if I don’t get a medal? I’m so glad I’m part of it now.”
