PSG Marketing client, De Vere welcomed some of the most decorated names in golf to its stunning Slaley Hall resort on the eve of the De Vere Collection PGA Seniors Championship. Ryder Cup legends Ian Woosnam and Costantino Rocca, who are competing for one of the most prestigious prizes in senior golf at the Northumberland resort, were on hand to offer tips and advice to local school children at a special event devised and co-ordinated by PSG Marketing Division.
PSG is working with De Vere to utilise their marketing assets to create closer ties with the local communities around their key venues. As title sponsors and host venue, the PGA Seniors Championship was the perfect platform for De Vere Slaley Hall to promote their junior initiatives while generating timely media exposure for the event and venue the day before the main Championships commenced.
Woosie and Rocca were guest coaches at a special Golf Foundation showcase, part of the Tri-Golf initiative, which introduces youngsters to both the technical aspects and etiquette of the game. The showcase event was the culmination of Tri-Golf sessions in twelve schools across Northumberland throughout May and June. The event was televised live by BBC North East and received extensive coverage across regional Radio and newspapers plus national golf websites and golf magazines.
“Getting children involved in golf at this age is so important. Rory McIlroy is proving that age is no barrier. To involve the local community in an event like this is fantastic and you never know, this initiative could unearth a future Major Champion!” commented former Masters Champion, Ian Woosnam. “This is always a great week for us at Slaley Hall, the course is in great condition and it attracts a strong field,” added Europe’s last victorious Ryder Cup Captain.
Woosnam, is joined by Sam Torrance, Gordon Brand Jnr. and Costantino Rocca in one of the strongest fields of the year as the De Vere Collection PGA Seniors Championship takes place between 25-28 June.
