Highlights of record-breaking Abu Dhabi Swimming Festival released
Professional Sports Group has released a short film to recognise the success of the Abu Dhabi Swimming Festival 2016, which this year saw a record-breaking number of people taking part in the event.
The Swimming festival — which is sponsored by Daman’s ActiveLife and organised by Professional Sports Group in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council — is one of the most successful community sports events in the UAE. The Festival aims to increase standards of fitness across the community, while also raising awareness of safety in the water.
Taking place on Saturday 29 October, close to 1000 swimmers took part in the event, with Nicholas Roselt winning the male category of the Abu Dhabi Splash Dash, and Marion Hanquet winning the female category.
Sharon van Rouwendaal, who won gold in the 10 km open water marathon at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, was the honorary entry in the Abu Dhabi Mile Race, and praised the azure waters of the Emirates Palace beach as “one of the best open waters I have ever seen … and very suited to swimmers of all levels.”
To commemorate the Festival’s most successful year, Professional Sports Group have released a highlights video of the event, which features Van Rouwendaal as well as hundreds more swimmers who took part.
A photo album from the event has also been published, which can be viewed on the Abu Dhabi Swimming Festival’s Facebook page.
