Dame Kelly Holmes joins over 2,000 runners at biggest Dolphin Energy Doha Dash
A record number of runners took part in the third annual Dolphin Energy Doha Dash today in celebration of Qatar National Sport Day.
In the biggest ever Dolphin Energy Doha Dash, which is organised by Professional Sports Group, runners enjoyed the unique experience of running on Qatar’s MotoGP track at Losail International Circuit in 5km, 3km and 1km races. The event also hosted a 1km walk specifically for ladies.
British runner and double gold Olympic Champion, Dame Kelly Holmes, ambassador for the event, took part in the 5km race running alongside Qatari citizens, residents and athletes.
Adel Ahmed Albuainain, General Manager, Dolphin Energy, said “For the third year running the Dolphin Energy Doha Dash was a great success, with over two thousand participating and hundreds of spectators cheering them on. The Doha Dash demonstrates our commitment to the importance of maintaining a physically active life and supports the vision and spirit of Qatar National Sport Day. On behalf of Dolphin Energy I would like to thank everyone who joined us, including Dame Kelly Holmes, and all of our partners in the event - GO Sport, Vodafone Qatar, Oryx Rotana, DHL Express, Scimitar, I Love Qatar, and Doha Stadium Plus.“
Jamie Cunningham, CEO & Founder of Professional Sports Group, said: “The third Dolphin Energy Doha Dash was even bigger and better than previous years, proving it is a key fixture in the Qatar National Sport Day and the Qatar sporting calendar. Since 2013 the event has grown from just over 1,000 into an event which welcomes thousands of participants and spectators. We thank Dolphin Energy and all our other partners who have made the event possible.”
During the event participants and spectators were treated to a range of activities, fitness tests and children’s games provided by sponsors and partners in the Race Village.
For the second year the Dolphin Energy Doha Dash supported the Shafallah Centre and through a percentage of registrations, donations from participants and a generous contribution from title sponsor Dolphin Energy, funds have been raised towards a new playground for the organisation.
